Paying tribute to its founders, Westerra Credit Union (Westerra) recently visited public schools throughout the Denver Metro Area to celebrate teachers and distribute grants as part of Westerra’s School Grant Program. The program, which has awarded over $500,000 to educators in the region in the last decade, aims to enhance students’ learning experiences through financial support for classroom supplies, including sports equipment, after-school programs or other initiatives that are determined to be most beneficial.
During this most recent grant cycle, 76 teachers were awarded $500 each, for a total of $38,000. The grant recipients represent schools across six Colorado school districts. In addition to Westerra’s teacher grants, the credit union also partnered with the Aurora, Cherry Creek, Denver, Douglas County, Jefferson County and Littleton Public Schools Foundations to identify Title 1 schools within each district in need of funding. The following schools received $1,000 grants to further support educational initiatives:
Sobesky Academy
North Middle School
Westgate Elementary School
South Ridge Elementary School
Village East Elementary School
McMeen Elementary School
Slater Elementary School
Eugene Field Elementary School
Pine Lane Elementary School
“Educators are the foundation of our communities, and we are deeply committed to supporting them,” said Steve Schmidle, president and CEO of Westerra. “Through our school grants, in-class financial literacy workshops and volunteer efforts, we aim to empower educators and invest in a brighter future for generations to come.”
