Similar to Zelle®, Westerra’s “Pay People” Allows Members to Send Money Easily and Securely

Westerra members can securely send and receive money using our Pay People (P2P) feature in digital banking or our mobile app!

Westerra uses the personal payment service Pay People (P2P), which allows members to securely send money to individuals, other Westerra accounts, or their own Westerra account. Pay People is similar to Zelle in that it allows members to send and receive money in Westerra’s Digital Banking online and our mobile app. It’s easy, convenient, and best of all, allows you to leave using cash in the past!

Note: Members must have a Westerra checking account with a debit card and be enrolled in Digital Banking to use Pay People. In notifications, you may also see this service referred to as PayItNow.

Benefits of Pay People:

  • Similar to the way Zelle functions, Pay People allows members to send money to anyone, anywhere, anytime from a desktop or mobile device using Westerra’s Digital Banking.

  • Unlike third-party apps, Pay People is used through our Digital Banking to send payments, which significantly reduces the risk of fraud.

  • There is no fee to send or receive money using Pay People.

What can you use it for?

Just like Zelle, members use Pay People for their everyday spending needs. Common examples include sending money to a friend to split the cost of dinner or a ride share; sending money to a child at college; or paying a service provider, like a dog walker, babysitter, lawn care service or others. The possibilities are endless for paying (or paying back) the people in your life!

When are funds withdrawn from the Westerra account and delivered to the recipient? Are there options for next-day or same-day delivery?

When funds are going from debit card to debit card, the transfer occurs right when the recipient accepts the transfer — even on weekends and holidays! If the transfer is from a checking account, once the recipient has accepted the transfer, funds are withdrawn from your account that evening, and delivered to the recipient within three (3) business days. These transfers do not take place on weekends or holidays.

What is the cutoff time for a transfer to be considered as scheduled/set up for the current day?

To send from a checking account, the cutoff time is 2:00 p.m. Mountain Time. It is the same cutoff time for Bill Pay and Pay People.

How to send and receive funds with Pay People It's simple! Log in to Digital Banking on your desktop* or mobile device, then:

  1. Click External Transfers and Pay People from the Move Money menu

  2. Click the To field

  3. Select if the funds will be sent to one of your Westerra accounts, an External Account, or People (i.e. individual)

Follow basic precautions for sending money safely:

  • Only send money to people you know, and don’t forget to verify your amount and recipient.

  • Person-to-person payment services should not be used to purchase goods or services or to send money to a person you do not know and trust.

  • Remember — once the money is sent, it is gone!

  • Using Cash App services is like sending cash and cannot be disputed if it was sent and authorized by a signer on the account.

  • If you think you have been scammed, please contact Westerra immediately. We also encourage you to file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov or call the FBI Denver Field office at 303-629-7171.

  • Be alert and aware of scammers asking you for your information.

  • Verify that your contact information is accurate in Digital Banking.
