Denver, Colo. — Feb. 25, 2022 - In response to December’s historic Marshall Fire, Westerra Credit Union has been raising awareness around and matching donations for the Community Foundation Boulder County Wildfire Relief Fund. The credit union is pleased to announce that through Westerra’s $50,000 corporate match, plus employee, member and community support, they will be donating $90,500 to the Wildfire Relief Fund.
In addition to raising funds, members of the Westerra team donated 22 hours of employee time to sort 2,805 pounds of donations at A Precious Child on Feb. 4 and Feb. 10 that will directly benefit 225 children and caregivers impacted by the Marshall Fire. A Precious Child is helping those impacted by the Marshall Fire receive immediate essentials, while also supporting long-term relief efforts.
“We are proud of the way our community and team have rallied behind this effort and are so thrilled to be assisting the Community Foundation Boulder County Wildfire Relief Fund and A Precious Child as they continue to support our neighbors during such a vital time,” said Jay Champion, CEO, Westerra Credit Union.
The Community Foundation Boulder County Wildfire Fund is distributing $5 million in financial assistance to those whose homes have been destroyed or damaged. An additional $500,000 is being distributed to support the needs of evacuees from this fund. In addition, the Community Foundation Boulder County is working with government and nonprofit partners to disperse the remaining funds to support those impacted.
“When tragedy strikes, we lean on our community. In addition to helping those impacted by the Marshall Fire in Boulder County, we understand the importance of supporting our own members who may be feeling the effects of this fire. We are here to help through our new Member Resource Center,” Champion said.
Members who have been impacted by the Colorado wildfires are encouraged to visit Westerra’s Member Resource Center to explore financial options while experiencing hardship as a result of the fires.
